VelaShape and UltraShape are both non-invasive body contouring treatments, however VelaShape is primarily for cellulite and firming, while UltraShape is for fat reduction. One is not necessarily better than the other; it just depends on what your specific concern is. Recently the UltraShape company Syneron introduced a new protocol, wherein VelaShape and UltraShape are done in conjunction. This new method of treatment allows patients to tackle multiple concerns at once, providing complete contouring in one session. Through a combination of radiofrequency, infrared light, vacuum, and massage, VelaShape helps break up cellulite and firm skin. It is a comfortable procedure; suitable for the arms, abdomen, thighs, and buttocks. This treatment requires six sessions done once a week for optimal results. UltraShape utilizes pulsed focused ultrasound in order to selectively destroy fat cells. The ultrasound energy is non-thermal, and therefore does not involve pain. It is currently FDA approved for treatment of the abdomen only, and requires three sessions every two weeks for optimal results. Treatment area and specific concern, whether it is rippling skin or pockets of fat, will determine which treatment is better for you. Consult with a board certified Dermatologist to discuss which treatment(s) you are a better candidate for.
