What Type of License Does a Technician Need to Perform Ultrasonic Cavitation?

It depends on the Device and its classification. For example for invasive ultrasonic liposuction - this is real surgery and only a physician trained in this technique (Board Certified Plastic Surgeon is safest) can perform it. However for Non-Invasive fat reduction such as the UltraShape - which is painless and without incisions, in California as necessary for a good faith examination by an M.D., nurse practitioner or physician assistant however the treatment can also be performed by registered nurse. I would verify at your treatment center if in California that this is the case.

In Canada, UltraShape body contour is delegated to technicians who have been trained on the device.  They should be under the supervision of a physician.

In our practice, we limit the use of ultrasound cavitation technology use to physician assistants and aestheticians under the guidance of physician assistants or the physician.Best results are from practitioners who have mastered the techniques as they are practitioner dependent, meaning that not everyone gets the same outcomes - training and technique is very important and key factors in the outcome. 

Hello and thank you for your question.  Ultrashape and ultrasound cavitation are treatments that in some states and in Canada, can be delegated to a nurse or medical aesthetician.  Each state in the US have their own unique rules regarding what treatments can be delegated or not.  It is important that you research the center you want to have the treatments at and ensure they have credibility ( there is a medical director) and that you feel comfortable with their knowledge of the procedure.  Referals from family and friends are good ways to learn about clinics in your area that will deliver results that you are looking for.
