Yes, if your office provides anesthetic application prior to treatment then typically we numb for approximately 20-30 minutes prior to treatment.
Thank you for your question! While you can use a numbing cream prior to laser hair removal, I o not recommend it. It can prevent us from knowing if there is an issue (such as a burn happening). If you are concerned with the pain you can always take tylenol or advil before your treatment.
Hello and thank you for your question. Yes you can use numbing cream but I advise against it, especially with your first treatment. If you are concerned about it you can take Tylenol or Advil before your treatment. Honestly laser treatments have come a long way and are very manageable. Best wishes.Dr. T
Hello, yes it is ok to use numbing cream before laser hair removal although we don't usually recommend it. The laser technology has advanced over the years making it a much more comfortable treatment. If it is too painful this could signal that you're getting a burn and the settings need to be adjusted. I prefer that my clients aren't numb so they can effectively scale their pain for me and I can provide a safe and effective treatment.
It may be better to take a mild medication for pain such as Tylenol or Ibuprofen to take the edge off because undue pain may indicate excessive heat leading to burns of the skin particularly with darker skin tones. Most lasers have a built-in cooling system or one can be employed separately to reduce the discomfort. Slowing down the time between pulses may help also.
Some providers may use numbing cream but it should be avoided as much as possible especially during the first session because accurate pain feedback is crucial in determining whether your skin is getting burned by the laser or not. Good luck!
