Is this normal healing 4 months post-Neck Lift and Facelift? (photo)

Question

At nearly 4 months post-neck and face lift I still have lumpy, bumpy areas alongside / adjacent to the submental incision. The area is also discolored (it’s kind of a brown color). There seems to be “banding,” too, from the side. Is this normal healing? Thank you for your time.

It is not uncommon to be experiencing some #lumps four months post-op. Recovery from a neck and facelifts do vary per person. This process can take from 2-6 months for face, neck and cheeks. Muscle weakness may also be present around the mouth especially if liposuction is used. Some degree of firmness or lumpiness under the skin is normal after surgery and will resolve with time. Local #massage of the areas may accelerate the resolution of this problem, which normally takes 2-4 months to disappear completely. It is during this time that the rejuvenating effects of the facelift will become apparent and the real result will be seen. If you have certain concerns about the procedures and #healing process, it is recommended to call your board-certified surgeon or their medical staff and discuss those #concerns.

Hi, it is hard to evaluate your swelling and discoloration with the photos. It is normal to have some induration and swelling in the neck area especially if your surgeon used liposuction as part of the necklift. It can take up to 6-8 months for the swelling and hardness to go away after liposuction. Circular massage in the area can help soften the tissue and also wear a neck strap at night. You should contact and follow up with your surgeon to ask his/ her advice. Best wishes.
