My dentist is on vacation all week and my crown as fallen out, what should I do?

My crown has fallen out and part of my tooth is still in the crown, my dentist won't be back in the office until next Monday a week from now. I have had a root canal done on the tooth so there is no nerve there. it is not sensitive yet, cold air and drinks do not bother the area. Should I do anything at home or do I need to go to another dentist?

Hi Morgan,If your temporary crown came off, call the dental office and see if they recommend you seeing anyone to have the temporary put back on.  If not, they may be able to give you some temporary cement for you to put it back on yourself.  It's obviously better if a dentist does it, so call and see if they have someone covering for them.

If the office is open one of the staff can use temporary cement to hold the crown in place until the dentist returns. If the office is not open you might consider seeing another dentist.

Hi:I normally suggest to recement the crown right away before there is any movement in the tooth that will cause the crown not to fit properly.Best,Dr. Maddahi
