My temporary crown is causing extreme pain with any pressure (no root canal on tooth).

Based off the history and symptoms you have written, I would not suggest placement of a permanent crown.  
A root canal specialist should be consulted for evaluation of the tooth, nerve response and clinical responses to different stimuli and pressures. 
It is possible you have a "cracked tooth syndrome" in which case the tooth may not be able to be saved and an extraction would be needed.  Many times this is diagnosed by clinical symptoms.  Sometimes this can be diagnosed on X-ray or CBT scan of the tooth.
I would recommend seeing your local endodontist for evaluation ASAP prior to any permanent Crown being placed. 

Placing a permanent crown on a painful tooth is not recommended.  From what you described, you will probably need a root canal.  Talk to your dentist about it.  He should at least perform a pulpal test and refer you to an endodontist for consultation.
