Will drinking lemon water help to reduce the post-lipo fluid retention more quickly? I read that lemons can have a diuretic effect.
Answer: Probably not I doubt lemon water or even a true diuretic pill will change liposuction swelling that much. Sorry to get a little scientific here but diuretics work directly to reduce your intravascular fluid meaning the fluid inside the blood vessels. Liposuction swelling is the interstitial space, the space between the cells. The best way to help lessen this swelling is with well fitting compression garments which increase the hydrostatic pressure on the interstitial space to then drive the fluid back in to the blood vessels and then to the kidneys to be eliminated. Hope this makes sense. Good luck.

Answer: Things to help resolve fluid retention. Fluid retention or swelling is a natural part of the healing phase after surgery. Compression, movement and time are the most important factors in the resolution of the fluid retention. There are other things you can do help the swelling to resolve. These include lymphatic massage, vibration plates, and low impact exercise. Unfortunately, Lemon water won't reduce swelling. We also don't recommend diuretics. Wishing you the best of health, Dr Wright.

Answer: Postoperative protocol Dear franklinparrish, I understand your concern. It is best that you consult your plastic surgeon regarding post operative care and management (i.e including massage techniques and timing) specific to your case. Your surgeon knows your condition well and has preferences on when and what to use for faster healing and recovery. Post operative care and management depends on the type of surgery performed and the technique used during surgery among other factors. It is best, however, that you follow your plastic surgeon's advice on post operative care management for a smooth and faster healing and recovery. Answer: Does lemon water reduce swelling after liposuction? Hi and welcome to our forum! Lemon water contains citric acid which is a natural diuretic. It may increase urine output but may result in dehydration, sodium and potassium loss. Swelling after surgery or trauma is a natural phenomenon. The tissue fluid is rich in nutrients. However, excess swelling can be minimized with elevation of the treated / injured part. It is not routine to administer a diuretic after surgery unless there is a medical indication. Best wishes...
