Should I get a breast augmentation surgery if I have ABS?

Question

I went to my primary to get my labs done and he also gave me a urinalysis, which came back as I have asymptomatic bacteruria, surgery is scheduled for the 30th of this month, should I get it done?

I would get that cleared up prior to surgery. That's a tricky scenario though and you may want to treat that empirically prior to surgery. In summary, I would treat with antibiotics for 3-5 days prior, then do the breast augmentation and then stay on antibiotics for at least 1-3 days after surgery. Best Wishes!!

You should be able to undergo your schedule breast augmentation procedure, but I would certainly discuss your questions and concerns with your plastic surgeon.

In some patients with asymptomatic bacteruria, I would recommend a short course of prophylactic antibiotics used to treat UTI such as Bactrim.

If you have asymptomatic bacteriuria then you need to have this cleared before undergoing any surgery.  A repeat culture can be done prior to surgery.

I would advise repeating the urinalysis to insure a “clean catch” to be sure that the original was not contaminated. 
It is unusual to be asymptomatic. Antibiotics pre op by mouth for a few days could also be given. In addition your surgeon will also give them IV before starting your case.

Be sure to let your plastic surgeon know before the day of surgery
