There is a normal range for most patients. I find that 20-30 units of Botox per side (or 60-90 units of Dysport) is adequate for the vast majority of patients. If it is the first time we are trying an injection I will often start around 20 units per side then reassess in a few weeks to see if more is needed. I find that patients who have significant TMJ and myofascial pain symptoms with their masseter hypertrophy often need a higher dose than patients who are getting the treatments primarily for cosmetic concerns. The goal should be to figure out the lowest amount that does what you want it to do.
Facial slimming is very popular as gentle treatments can produce very pleasing results. The number of units of Botox depends on the size of the muscle and the degree of improvement wanted. In addition, there needs to be precise placement of the product as problems can occur when other muscles are inadvertently affected. Please make sure that you see an experienced doctor for a thorough consultation and assessment prior to undergoing any treatments.Best regards and I hope this helps, Dr. Sapijaszko.
Typically 25-30 units per side can be used to soften the jawlines from a prominent masseter muscle.
Historically, I have started with 20 units per side. I then have the patient come back in 1-2 weeks to see if more is needed. Seldom have I seen a patient that needs more than 30 units per side.Andrew Campbell, M.D.Facial Rejuvenation Specialist
Most patients require 30-40 units (total, for both sides) of Botox to slim the masseter muscles. This can be tailored to you needs. Often this treatment lasts a bit longer than other areas treated, 4-6 months.
The appropriate amount of Botox for the masseter muscles depend on the muscle mass. In general, it takes 20-30 units to paralyze the masseter muscle on each side. Since this is your first time, you may consider starting with 20 units on each side and then supplementing more in two weeks if there are still significant muscle activities there.
I recommend a formal in-person consultation to determine the exact amount of Botox needed, but just by looking at your picture I think you would do well w/ 20U per side to start (40U total). Hope this helps!
I inject about 15-25 Botox units in each masseter. I feel that the lower dose would be appropriate for you. After 10 days, if there still is enlargement, another 10 per side could be injected.
I typically use 20 units on each side. It works great reducing the masseter muscle bulge and slimming down the jaw. Thank you for your question and good luck.
I typically start with 20 units per side and then add more, if needed, at 2-3 week follow-up. The amount required depends on the initial thickening of the muscle and the individual patient. This requires a customized treatment for best results so be sure to see an experienced injector.
