Can't smile after chin implant- is this permanent? (Photo)

There is significant swelling after a rhinoplasty and placement of a chin implant, so at 3 days after surgery, it is impossible to judge your results.  There will be significant changes to your appearance as the healing process occurs.  When a chin implant is placed, there can be stretching of the nerves in the area, which can temporarily affect sensation but not normally movement.  The change to your smile is most likely due to the swelling.  At this point, you need to just give it some more time to heal and your smile and appearance should improve.

your procedure and you have a significant of swelling present. Post-operative
swelling can interfere with your ability to smile. I recommend communicating any immediate post-operative
concerns to your surgeon, as he/she knows the details of your procedure and

Why have you NOT called or seen your surgeon with this swelling issue? It is the chosen surgeon's responsibility to make sure you fully understand the phases of healing after facial surgery. You are ONLY 3 days postop, so no wonder you feel and appear this way. Please call you surgeon this Monday morning to be seen.... It appears you have had other cosmetic surgeries so you must have been aware of swelling issues from those previous surgeries??? 

You are in the very early post operative period and swelling of the tissues are distorting your smile.  This may take several weeks to a few months to totally resolve.  Follow up closely with your surgeon for guidance.  Good luck.  Donald R. Nunn MD  Atlanta Plastic Surgeon
