Help! Open wound getting worse! Is this normal? (Photo)

Question

I posted last week about a open wound. My doctor told me it wouldn't get bigger and just heal now.. it's been a week and it's gotten a lot bigger. Is this normal? Should I go see another doctor for a second opinion? Or just wait even though it's gotten worse. I'm just really worried. Thank you!

but looks clean so you are doing a good job with your wound care. Wound separation and breakdown can and does happen, keep close f/u with your PS and things will heal with time.

Thank you for your question and pictures.  I agree that the open wound has gotten a little larger but also it looks cleaner.  I assume that your PS has you doing wound care.  Regardless, close and frequent follow up with your PS is important to heal well.  This should heal eventually, you'll just have to be a little patient.

Thank you for your question.  I am sorry that you are dealing with a complication.  It appears that you have some skin break down after your a breast reduction or mastopexy.  It looks like you have a few areas of fibrinous tissue.  This wound will likely heal over time.  After, you may need revisional surgery to improve the scars.  Regular follow-up is with your surgeon is important to make sure you are healing appropriately.

I am sorry to hear of your wound issues. This is a large wound and this will take a number of months to heal. As long as there is no underlying reason for the wound issue this will heal and the wound does look healthy. You will need regular dressings and the key is that it does not get infected. Your PS could consider a negative pressure dressing. Another option is a skin graft although I would probably try and let this wound on its own if possible. If you have concerns I would always recommend a second opinion. This is best not only for you but also your surgeon and he/she could arrange this for you.

You have the right to obtain more opinions from other boarded PSs. Generally the area of your wound dehiscence is the #1 tension producing area. Once the wound starts to breakdown it usually becomes large before the healing potential kicks in. Which is your exact course. Healing will take a few months of daily dressing change. Than another 6 months of skin maturation before a revision should be considered. If you have goos communication with yr surgeon than rust he/she is as expectant for you to achieve a closed wound asap.
