Lollipop lift. Do I need Gore-Tex sutures?

Question

If I'm going to do a lollipop lift on one side to lift the nipple and decrease the size of the arolea .... do I need gortex sutures or will dissolvable sutures be enough to prevent widening as I'll have the vertical incision?

A vertical lift is done to remove additional skin and lift the breast but it also reduces tension along the circumareolar closure.

A properly done vertical or lollipop does not require the gortex suture since there should be no tension on the areola. When I do a lift I close all the skin and make sure all tension controlled and pop the nipple/aerola out in the proper spot and close it tension free. This gives a superior breast shape and areola size as compared to the donut  or periaerola lift. Good luck.

best advice you can receive is from an in-person consultation.  Gortex sutures are not needed for this technique.   Make sure you
specifically look at before and after pictures of real patients who have
had this surgery performed by your surgeon and evaluate their
results.   The most important aspect is to find a surgeon you are
comfortable with. I recommend that you seek consultation with a qualified
board-certified plastic surgeon who can evaluate you in person.

In my practice, I do not use gortex sutures to reduce the size of the areola. I certainly do not see a reason for them if you are having a vertical incision. However, if you are concerned, talk to your surgeon and/or get several consults prior to proceeding with surgery.

I usually use a permanent suture when I perform a circumareola lift only.  I do not routinely use them for a lollipop lift alone.

It's impossible to answer your question without examining you. In general, many surgeons perform the sort of lift you describe without a Gore-Tex suture. Without the Gore-Tex suture there is increased risk of  stretching of the areola and widening of the periareolar scar.  Discuss your concerns with your surgeon. Depending on how much tightening you require either a dissolvable suture or a permanent suture like Gore-Tex  may be a good solution for you.
