It is important to remember that liposuction (irrespective of technique) is not a means of weight loss. Liposuction is a sculpting tool. Legal limits for office based procedures are anywhere from 4-5 liters depending on the state (which equates to at most 11 lbs). One must remember that the aspirate obtained is not pure fat but a mix of fat, blood, and tumescent. The limits do not change depending upon the treatment goal (contouring vs. fat transfer). That being said, in my practice, we rarely approach this limit with the average being approximately 2 liters. It is also important to consider the fact that BBL and BA are best staggered as pressure restrictions will complicate recovery. As always, discuss your concerns with a board certified plastic surgeon (ABPS).
