It is common for bruising to stay for up to 3 or 4 weeks after liposuction in some cases. And bruising and swelling can travel down far from the areas treated. Bruising is the physical manifestation of the breakdown process of blood and tissues.Hemoglobin in the red blood cells breaks down and becomes various pigments such as hemosiderin, bilirubin and biliverdin, etc. These substances can travel through tissues either through channels or simply by gravity. It is common that people see the symptoms of of bruising in areas below the areas treated.Your doctor is probably correct. This should resolve with time.Bruising after liposuction usually goes away by two weeks.
