I have done my research and results came up that i can, i have mild Von Willebrand disease i don't take medicine for it never have. I've already been turned down by two clinics in miami.
Answer: Von Willebrand disease and elective surgery Due to lack of coagulation factors severe bleeding may be experienced in patients with von Willebrand disease undergoing any surgical procedure. Extensive preparation, infusion of concentrated clothing factors is necessary before any surgery as well as close monitoring and possibly additional multi modality therapy in postoperative course. It is extremely expensive and should be used only in emergency related surgeries and life threatening situations. You are not a candidate for cosmetic surgery. Sorry.

Answer: Can i get a BBL if i have Von Willebrand disease? Thank you for your questions. This disorder causes a defect in blood clotting that can lead to bleeding complications. There are treatments for this that can be used around the time of surgery to decrease the risk of bleeding but this is usually used in cases of emergency rather than elective surgery. See the link provided for a case report of breast augmentation in a patient with vWd. The bottom line is that most surgeons would not sign up for the added risk of complications and risk when not necessary, so it is going to be hard to find someone right for you. Dallas R. Answer: Liposuction and bleeding disorders Unfortunately liposuction is a procedure that causes bleeding. Back in the 80s before the use of the wedding solution liposuction caused excessive bleeding. Now on my patients routinely the Hematocrit will drop by three points with the liposuction of the abdomen back and flanks. With any type of bleeding disorder this procedure could be very dangerous. Even a patient who is just taking aspirin before the surgery can cause bleeding that require a transfusion after surgery.

Answer: Dangerous lurking from bleeding disorder It's possible to have elective surgery with genetic bleeding disorders. It is imperative you be evaluated by hematologist and given appropriate treatments before the procedure. I've only given one patient a blood transfusion after liposuction. The patient had an undisclosed bleeding disorder called Von Willebrand.Start by talking to your primary care doctor and get a referral to a hematologist to have all of the necessary testing and preparation for an elective procedure. You will still be at a higher risk for bleeding or potentially forming blood clots after the surgery. In general BBL can be a fairly bloodless procedure if proper care is taken but all bets are off in someone with a coagulopathy. The key is to be properly prepared. Best, Mats Hagstrom, MD
