Answer: Dangerous lurking from bleeding disorder It's possible to have elective surgery with genetic bleeding disorders. It is imperative you be evaluated by hematologist and given appropriate treatments before the procedure. I've only given one patient a blood transfusion after liposuction. The patient had an undisclosed bleeding disorder called Von Willebrand.Start by talking to your primary care doctor and get a referral to a hematologist to have all of the necessary testing and preparation for an elective procedure. You will still be at a higher risk for bleeding or potentially forming blood clots after the surgery. In general BBL can be a fairly bloodless procedure if proper care is taken but all bets are off in someone with a coagulopathy. The key is to be properly prepared. Best, Mats Hagstrom, MD
