Do I need fillers & was it a mistake to close my teeth gaps? (Photos)

I am almost complete with Invisalign treatment and I’m panicking thinking I may have made a huge mistake going this route. I had gaps behind both of my top canine teeth. To close them my ortho retracted and tilted my teeth a bit. Since the retraction I’ve felt like I have more wrinkles around my mouth and I look older in general. Also I feel like my tongue is pushed too far back in my throat. I’m wondering if I need fillers or if I do look normal and I’m just paranoid.

Hi, The fullness of the upper lip can be affected by the support of the upper teeth. I notices my patient’s lips looked fuller one visit for Botox and I thought they had lip filler with another doctor. She said, that she didn’t, but it may be that she just started wearing the Invisalign retainer and the thickness of the plastic pushed her lips out and made them appear fuller. A family friend show a photo of her daughter who had flared out teeth and had 4 teeth removed to create room and although the teeth fit better, her lips did appear less full. For these reasons, I think that the appearance of the lips may be interrelated to the upper teeth. If you are happy with your orthodontics, and have reduced flaring, then adding some fillers may provide soft tissue volume on the upper lip which can press against upper teeth and provide this volume. Or another option is to continue the Invisalign and ask for a very slight flaring of the upper teeth or at least straight down, but not tucked in. This may help with the lip volume issue. Interesting question. Normally something we don’t talk about, but I’m sure my colleagues may also have some anecdotal observations with their patients. Hope this provided some value to you.
