Have any of you performed a BBL on a patient with rheumatoid arthritis and a benign pituitary tumor?

Question

I am on methotrexate and cabergoline. My rheumatologist mentioned she had a few patients who have had a BBL & were completely fine. She recommends, stopping the methotrexate 4 weeks before and 4 weeks after any type of surgery. Waiting to hear back from my endocrinologist to be medically clearly but I believe I will be fine, just wanted to hear from you all!

No I have not, however, that is not necessarily a contraindication. You need to have a full medical examination to determine your eligibility for plastic surgery.

There is no evidence that rheumatoid arthritis or a benign pituitary tumor has any effect on fat survival. Of course you might be at a slightly higher risk of a complication with these associated medical issues but I don’t think it’s significant enough not to do it. As long as your endocrinologist  clears you, you should be fine. Best of luck.

Thank you for your question. I have performed on surgery with patients who have had an autoimmune problem without complications. It is important that you have no complicating circumstances that magnifies your risk factor i. e cigarette smoking, diabetes, long term hypertension, abnormal CBC, previous wound breakdowns following surgery. If you are free of these issues, then you can have the surgery. I an not aware that RA and most auto immune disorders are a contraindication to surgery. You may have a higher complication rate.
