Does my extraction site appear to be healing normally? (Photos)

Question

I had tooth #17 extracted 10 days ago. My stitches dissolved on day 6. Today I noticed my gums have not healed back together yet and I have an open trench in my gums from where they were cut. I can look down into the socket. I do not have any pain or a fever. Does the site appear to be normal?

You are still early in the healing phase after an extraction. Try to avoid any trauma or pulling to the area. If you start to notice that things are getting worse instead of better, I would consult your surgeon.

It may take some time before the socket is completely closed. For some sutures, it is perfectly normal to dissolve around the week after placement.  More importantly, if you’re not feeling any pain or swelling, then you’re probably healing within normal limits.
