I am 3 weeks 2 days post TT and still experiencing dizziness/foginess. When I stand or sit it feels as if my body is swirling and a couple of times I have lost my balance. Also, my vision seems to get blurry occasionally (I do wear glasses full time). Spoke with PS regarding dizziness and he did not have a clear response to me regarding the possible cause of the dizziness. Is this normal after 3 weeks out? Should I consult a neurosurgeon? Becoming quite concerned because I don't feel like me.
Answer: Dizziness after Tummy Tuck This is a not typical. I would recommend that you go back to see your PCP to rule out anemia or an inner ear problem. See if your plastic surgeon agrees.

Answer: Dizzy after surgery... At three weeks, dizziness is rare. Usually once patients are off pain meds, those types of issues resolve rather quickly. Things to consider would be how much blood loss occurred during surgery, the extent of surgery (were other procedures done at the same time), and your nutrition...especially protein intake. As far as pain meds, I'm assuming you have been off those for some time now. Speak to your plastic surgeon regarding these issues. I also agree with Dr. Lawton. Get a medical doctor involved if things cannot be sorted out. Good luck and take care.

Answer: Need to be seen by plastic surgeon! There are many reasons that one would feel weak after tummy tuck. First, it is important that you are getting enough nutrition. I have found that most patients are malnourished after surgery. This is a time of increased calorie and protein requirements. Count calories and protein. You should probably be taking in 1.5 times your normal. Second, the pain medications can have the effects you are describing. Of course more serious causes for dizziness should be considered and excluded. You should be seen by the plastic surgeon to make sure that nothing more concerning is going on. If you are concerned and are not getting answers, arrange to be seen by another doctor!

Answer: Dizziness after tummy tuck surgery This is a very serious question and I thank you for asking it. The answer could be somewhat simple, and I would agree in a thorough review by your PCP, but even before that review you have to rule out a pulmonary embolus beginning in a DVT from the legs or abdomen! Nothing is more serious to your health than this problem. The fastest way of evaluating this is to quickly refer this to your local ER or your PCP immediately! Don't delay on this! There may be as high as a 5-7% frequency for this after a tummy tuck.Good luck to you.Frank Rieger M.D. Tampa Plastic Surgeon
