Why am I extremely sore after taking off my binder? Tummy tuck surgery 2 weeks ago.

Thank you for your question.The compression helps to decrease the amount of swelling from surgery. When you remove the garments it allows for the tissues to expand and you can experience some increased discomfort. The garments can also become a security blanket for you while healing. I would suggest each day leaving them off a little longer that way you can slowly become adjusted to not wearing them, but also control the discomfort that you are having.  You do not want to depend on the garment to get you moving around, so each day increase the duration of not wearing it by 30-45 minutes and it will get easier.

It is normal to feel numb and sore at this point, I suggest you talk to your PS about any concerns, he or she can answer any of your questions.

I would recommend that you discuss this question with your surgeon as every surgeon has their own respective post op protocol for his/her patients.  Your surgeon is your best resource as he/she is most familiar with your medical history and how you are healing at this time.

The best way to assess and give true advice would be an in-person exam.

Its best to run this by your PS. It is important to apply compression but it is important that the compression is not doing anything harmful. You may need a change of garments / binder?

You are on the early phase of the healing process. Compression at this moment is very important it will make you feel better. I recommend you to follow up with your plastic surgeon and let him / her know if something concerns you.

Thanks for your question. 2 weeks is an early stage. Its normal that you still feel sore. Go to your plastic surgeon and keep following his recommendation as he is the best one to tell you what to do and not to do after your surgery. Have a good recovery!!!.

It is usual to have more pain when the binder is taken off for the first few weeks.  The degree of pain varies considerably from person to person though yours seems toward the more severe end of the spectrum it does necessarily mean there is a problem.  You might try wearing the binder a little less tight and see if this doesn't make taking it off less uncomfortable.  It sounds like you are having enough pain to warrant a follow up visit to the operative surgeon. 

The binder holds everything in, and so with the binder off the muscles may be a bit weak and feel a tugging or soreness.

The number and quality of pain complaints after tummy tuck is limitless. Most people are more comfortable with compression after a full tummy tuck. The sensation can take months to go away and is not at all indicative of a problem. It also helps with swelling so it is good to continue the compression binder as long as it is comfortable. Girdles are not so much help with the pain because they do not provide as much compression and immobility to the surgical site.
