Cleft lip scar revision and rhinoplasty/alarplasty. What options do I have with a deviated septum? (photo)

I'm 28 years old, half polynesian with a cleft lip and deviated septum. I am wanting to improve the appearance of my scar as it seems wide and textured, could this be surgically revised at all? I am also hoping to get more symmetry in my nose, I dont care much how it looks from the side, or worried about my bridge, but I would like more even nostrils with a little less width to my nose. Not completely different or western, but softer and refined.

It is not advisable to do this as a complication related to root canal such as infection might effect your nose surgery. Give a month in between. RegardsDr J

You should ask your surgeon what is the swelling due to? It can take up to a year to see the final outcome but it would be helpful to know if the septum has been like this from day one in the post op period or whether it has happened later on.

You're still within a delicate time frame.  I would suggest you seek the attention of your plastic surgeon to address this issue.  I recommend that my patients use a  saline spray 3-4 times a day, which may be of help.Best of luck,Dr. Philip Solomon, Solomon Facial Plastic

... Many people have chronically "stuffy" noses, but they don't have what we call real sinusitis. If the problem is in the nose itself, it might be treatable at the same time as working on the appearance of the nose. The rhinoplasty surgeon would have to look inside the nose to make that...

This is. a common question  after rhinoplasty surgery.  Sneezing will not disrupt the rhinoplasty result.  If you have allergies taking antihistamines after surgery may help.  Sneezing with your mouth open is advisable to avoid excess airflow through your nose.
