If you use prp with your breast fat transfers can you please comment?

A breast augmentation with fat can produce beautiful results.  The downside is the unpredictable nature of fat graft survival.  The use of PRP improves the survival and is used a lot in fat transfer.  The breast is the exception.  Although it may prove safe in the long run, most plastics surgeons that do fat transfer are still not using it.  The fear is doing anything that may increase the risk of breast cancer.  Most of us, and our patients, would agree that a bit less fat survival is a lot better than taking a risk of increasing cancer rates.  Until research answers this question better I think you will find most, but not all, plastic surgeons are not using PRP in the breast during breast fat augmentation procedures.

The use of PRP has been done for over a decade. I have worked with it and helped developed one of the initial devices for its purification from blood and its clinical use. One of the important aspects of the use of PRP in fat grafting is the ratio of fat to PRP volumes. In the breast it will require more than the traditional 3ccs of PRP extract to make a difference. In addition, while most surgeons mix the PRP with the fat, this is not the best way to use it. The breast should be injected first with the PRP and the fat then injected right after. This is a tbetter method of PRP distribution in the tissues.
