Rhinoplasty - what approach would correct my nose? (Photos)

Hi, I am a 25 yr old F, and curious to see if there is anyway to shrinken the length of the bridge of my nose-so it’s not so upturned? My mom has a rounder wide nose and my father has the long straight bridge, so it seems like an uncommon case to work with as im having a hard time searching for rhinoplasty results in someone as the same nose as me or relatively close..…. SOS at what the approach would be or how to correct this. Thank you!

Thank you for your question. You are an excellent candidate for rhinoplasty. I think it is one of the most beautifying surgeries that we do as plastic surgeons. A large portion of my practice is dedicated to rhinoplasty surgery. In your case, I would shorten the medial crura and remove more of the cartilaginous lower nose then the upper nose.  I have taken care of many patients who have very similar anatomy to yours. You should be able to have an excellent result. It is important to only see plastic surgeons with extensive experience in rhinoplasty, ie perform at least 6 per month and have performed hundreds of cases. Also, critically evaluate on-line galleries to see if their art form resonates with yours. Rhinoplasty is definitely a grey haired plastic surgeon's sport. Best wishes to you.

The profile photo shows a fairly straight bridge with a mildly elevated tip, while the frontal and underside views show a rounded tip and some nostril asymmetry. These close, angled selfies distort proportions, so they are not reliable enough to measure true bridge length, projection, or rotation.

Shortening the bridge would not usually make an upturned nose less upturned and could actually make the nose look shorter. The more relevant variables are tip rotation, tip projection, columellar support, and the relationship between the tip and dorsum. If your goal is less nostril show and a less upturned appearance, a surgeon may consider carefully lowering or derotating the tip, adjusting its support, and then making only the dorsal changes needed to keep the profile balanced. The rounded tip could also be refined conservatively without making it pinched.

Your anatomy is not an unusual combination, but the plan should be based on standardized frontal, profile, oblique, smiling, and basal photographs plus an in-person examination. Computer imaging can help you and your surgeon agree on how much tip rotation and projection change would still look natural.

Hi and thank you for your question.Based on your photos, the main issue appears to be the perception of a long nasal bridge combined with limited tip rotation. Rather than simply shortening the bridge, a structural rhinoplasty approach focusing on tip support and controlled rotation can help balance the proportions and make the nose appear shorter and more harmonious.

Based on what we see, your nose lip angle appears to be within normal limits. If you are concerned only about your nostril show on front view, depending on your examination, permanent non-surgical nose job treatments may be considered for lowering your nostril margins, without the inconvenience, uncertainty, expense, and downtime associated with surgery. Your nose looks quite acceptable. If you want rhinoplasty for certain changes, it can certainly be done. You can describe yourself with images that you like, or the surgeons can create a simulation using your side profile photo. It can be done with an open or closed rhinoplasty approach.
