Uneven areola after lift and reduction. Any suggestions? (photos)

Question

breast reduction and lift about four months ago. I'm pleased with the shape and size, but I'm not happy with the size and shape difference of my areoles. They are about a half an inch different in length and width. The one one the right is also starting to develop raised reddish scarring. I have brought this to the attention of the surgeon and am not really happy with the response. Can someone please let me know how difficult this is to fix and the cost associated with it?

All surgical procedures carry some degree of risk. Occasionally, minor complications occur and
do not affect the surgical outcome. Although your slight discrepancy in areola size and shape appears at this time, you would be best off allowing six to eight months for full recovery. You can always consult your PS with questions and concerns of the results.

I agree you have an overall very nice result. Even your areola difference is not severe since most natural areolas are not identical. However, they could be improved with revision, though not be identical. I agree with pressure and massage and at least allow 6 months for scar maturation before considering a revision. Good luck.

I believe you have a very nice result from your breast lift. I see a minor discrepancy in the size of your areolas.  At this point, I would wait a year after surgery for your scars to mature and flatten before considering any revision.  You can try and get the larger areola reduced but know they never are perfectly identical.

I agree that you have a pleasing result. I would allow you to heal for 6-12 months before considering a revision. This is because things will continue to change. The left areola may stretch out during that time. These scars tend to improve with time. Things that you can do right now for your scars include massage and silicone gel sheeting. Other things to consider include steroid injections and laser treatment. Discuss your concerns with your surgeon.

Your results are very nice. Yes there is some areola asymmetry, this is normal as one can not control how the tissues will respond with stretch and relaxation. It can be revised as well, but you should give it 6 months or longer to heal.

Thank you for your question. Honestly, based on your photos, you are healing quite nicely. Your asymmetry may be more evident in person; in the photo you provided, it's very, very mild. It is normal to have some degree of asymmetry in any procedure - this is due to the healing process, and how the tissue settles. My advice would be to wait it out for a bit - try and give it a full year before you decide to do anything. If after that time you're still bothered by things, a small, in-office revision procedure would likely do just the trick. Regarding your scars, again, you seem to be healing quite nicely. If you're developing raised areas, massaging the area 2-3 times a day can help promote tissue settling. Kenalog, a steroid, can also be injected into the area. However, I would continue to wait for a bit, and see how things settle. Best of luck!

At 4 months after surgery your scars are still healing and changing so it's too soon to say what your final results will look like. It can take up to 12 months for scars to matureI would recommend massages and scar management with a silicone gel. If the difference in size is still noticeable after 6 months post-op then you should discuss options for possible areola revision with your surgeon

Based on your photo, you have a very nice result from your breast lift surgery. You may want to discuss possible scar revision with nipple areolar complex revision with your plastic surgeon or get a second opinion from a board certified plastic surgeon.
