I am currently on macrobid for uti. I end this medicine on Monday and I am having lip fillers done for the first time Tuesday. Am I able to get them done if I was taking antibiotics the day before?
Answer: Fillers after UTI It's generally safe to get lip fillers after finishing a course of antibiotics like Macrobid (Nitrofurantoin), but there are a few things to consider before proceeding: UTI Resolution: Make sure that your UTI is fully resolved and you're feeling well. If the infection or symptoms persist, it might be better to delay the filler appointment until you're fully recovered to avoid any complications during healing. Consult Your Injector: Let your injector know about the recent UTI and the fact that you've been on antibiotics. They can assess whether it's safe to proceed based on your health and treatment history. Immune System Consideration: Your body is fighting off an infection, and while finishing the antibiotic course should address it, your immune system may still be recovering. It's good to ensure you're fully healed before undergoing any cosmetic procedure, including fillers. Overall, it’s likely that you can proceed with your appointment, but be sure to inform your injector about your antibiotic use and any lingering symptoms to ensure everything is safe.

Answer: Clarifying the Safety of Lip Fillers After Completing Antibiotic Treatment Thank you for your question. Generally, taking antibiotics such as Macrobid (nitrofurantoin) for a urinary tract infection should not interfere with getting lip fillers. However, there are a few considerations to keep in mind: Overall Health: Ensure that your UTI symptoms have resolved and that you are feeling well. It's important to be in good health before undergoing any cosmetic procedures. Allergic Reactions: If you have had any allergic reactions to the antibiotics or any other medications recently, inform your provider. This is crucial to avoid any potential complications. Consult with Your Provider: Always discuss your current and recent medications with your healthcare provider performing the lip fillers. They can provide personalized advice based on your medical history and current health status. Hydration and Recovery: Ensure you are well-hydrated and take care of your overall health to facilitate a smooth recovery from both the UTI and the lip filler procedure. In summary, there should not be a direct contraindication to getting lip fillers the day after finishing a course of Macrobid, but it is always best to discuss your specific situation with your healthcare provider to ensure it's safe for you. Best regards,

Answer: Antibiotics and lip fillers As long as you’re not taking your antibiotics for an active infection and just as means of preventative care, then you can definitely have your fillers for lip augmentation. I hope this helps and good luck from Leonard Grossman, MD, organic Plastic Surgery.
