Had Smart Lipo 4 months ago and hardly any changes yet. 4.5 litres was removed. Surgeon is telling me to be patient until Jan??

Hi! Without before photos it's hard to tell. It can take up to six months to see the final result. I would continue to exercise and eat well. Also contact your surgeon to take a look at your pre-op and post-op photos.

Hi There, Do you have any preoperative pictures of what you looked like prior to the procedure? I often find that patients forget what they looked like prior to the procedure and may not be at the body habits that they thought they were going to be at.  I always have my patients take a preoperative pic as well so they can have it in their phone and look back at it.  4.5 L is a significant amount of volume,  you do appear to have some fat on the undersurface of your abdominal muscles which are not amenable to any form of liposuction.  The only way to burn that fat is via diet and exercise.  See your surgeon and ask for a preop pic and post it with your current pic and see if there is a difference.

Having 4.5 liters removed should be a very noticeable change. But without seeing your before photos it is hard to compare how your results have come along. Continue to diet and exercise to achieve better results. It does take 9 to 12 months to fully heal from the procedure so be patient and stay motivated. 

Keep in mind, you can have swelling, which can last 3-6 months after your procedure. Lymphatic massage and venus legacy treatments can give improvement. Smart Lipo needs a combination approach to get the best results. I recommend adding thermage, ultherapy, exilis. VASER liposuction in combination with ThermiRF is a great alternative, but would require more downtime. See an expert. Best, Dr. Emer

Without a before photo, it's not possible to say how much of a difference your procedure has made. Dieting and exercising are great so long as they are on point and your weight is dropping. If you are eating more calories than you are burning, then nothing will improve. I would expect to see more muscle tone from a suitable exercise routine, but again, without before pics, there's no way to gauge progress. See a nutritionist and work with a trainer in your gym.

Your surgeon is accurate to say you won't see your final results until about 6 months after Smartlipo, but by 4 months post-op, you should at least see some improvement. It's hard for me to gauge your progress without before pictures for comparison. Try to be patient but do check back in with your surgeon if you're still dissatisfied by January. Best of luck.

I would take a careful look at the before and after pictures most people do not remember what they looked like before the procedure with that much fat removed it is hard to imagine that there would be no change

there is no question that a lot of your abdominal fat is intra-abdominal ie behind the muscle which means that it cannot be liposuctioned out regardless of the technique used. this is very typical of men, whose bellies protrude. the only way your abdomen is going to get decently flat is if you lose weight from dieting (look at Paleo Meal Replacement) and increased exercising. you will also continue to improve for 6 months after Smartlipodavid berman md
