Will orbital rim implants help with round eyes that have scleral show?

im 25, had no surgery now im getting orbital implants mainly for eye hollow bone structure and scheral show from a maxo facial who does orbital rim implants but has done a few canthopexys im wondering if one just has orbital rim implants could this remove any eye hollows and also reduce scheral show? if one has a canthopexy with orbital implant will this give a better result and ensure there is no lower eyelid retraction? I belive only orbital can help without canthopexy

Orbital rim implants in and of themselves will not improve scleral show. And because that are placed through lower eyelid incisions run the risk of even increasing that problem due to lower eyelid retraction.Well done canthopexies are a must with this procedure just to prevent the scleral show problem from getting worse. While it seems that orbital rim implants will push up the lower eyelids, that is not what actually happens. Orbital rim implants are great for permanent correction of tear troughs and a recessed infraorbital rims (skeletal correction) but not for the soft tissue of the eyelid above it. Depending on the degree of scleral show, canthopeixes alone may be adequate but spacer grafts in the eyelid may be needed for more severe cases.

I think orbital rim implants are a terrible idea unless you have a serious defect from an accident or surgery....and even then a real bone graft from the calvarian area ( skull) is the preferred choice. Most reputable surgeons will not use artificial orbital grafts unless there is no choice because of other concerns. For most people with hollow eyes and scleral show the preferred treatment is simply a lateral canthopexy with the proper lifting and repositioning of the lateral canthal ligament outwards and upwards. Please see a surgeon experienced in this work or you will be in for big problems. The scleral show may be made worse by the implants themselves!
