My doctor he been suspended by the GMC, I was due to have revision surgery with him next month. what happens now? I had 360 lipo and fat transfer in Sept 2021. I wasn't happy with my results - I could tell straight away that my surgeon hadn't taken as much fat as I wanted (only 1 litre) & I also developed an infection which put me in hospital for 3 days. After over a year my surgeon finally agreed to do revision surgery for me free of charge. I have now found out that my surgeon has been suspended for misconduct. Does the company have an obligation to provide another surgeon for me free of charge? Thank you

Answer: Need for revision surgery The answer to your question depends on who you made your contract with. if the doctor wasn’t solo private practice then he is the only one who is obligated to do the revision work. If the doctor is not capable of practicing medicine currently then your only option is to wait until that providers license is restored to a point where he can practice medicine. If you want to a clinic that hires doctors then your financial agreement is most likely with the clinic and not the provider. The clinic is then responsible for the outcome of your procedure since they took the money. Your situation is complex and the amount of information included it’s a bit limited to give you an accurate answer. Did you go to a corporate Liposuction clinic that hires doctors? If so which one? Did your doctor agree to perform a revision? If so if you went to a clinic that hires doctors in the clinic probably has an obligation to follow through with your doctors recommendations. Your post is insufficient to give you anymore of an answer. I suggest you read the fine print about the documents you were given. Corporate clinics often include a lot of verbiage about not guaranteeing outcomes so legally things tend to be a bit in their favor. Good luck, Mats Hagstrom MD
