Can I request a veneer for a chipped lateral incisor?

Question

I had a crack that started to show signs of decay along the medial surface of my lateral incisor. As a result the dentist had to go in and file down the area and a good 1/3 of that surface was removed. A bonding was placed The bonding keeps cracking and I keep having it replaced. I have a lot of sensitivity to hot and cold in that area. Can I request to have a veneer placed instead to make it a more permanent/ durable solution? Or are they not able to pace a veneer over just one anterior tooth?

Hello there,You can certainly have a single veneer placed on that tooth.  It is very important to choose the right cosmetic dentist, so that the shape, color and shade of that veneer is an exact match to your neighboring teeth.  I would strongly recommend that you make sure that the dentist has plenty of before and after photos of his or her actual patients, so that you will have a pretty accurate idea of how your teeth will look in the end.  Good luck and I hope this helps. You can certainly have a veneer placed on that tooth.  You have to understand that they will have to cover the entire outside surface of that tooth with a veneer, and not just a piece.  Doing one veneer is due-able as long as they can match the color.

A veneer would definitely be a more durable and permanent solution to fix the lateral incisor. It is possible to place a single veneer for the lateral incisor as long as it is aesthetically acceptable to you. Sometimes, it becomes hard for a single veneer to mimic the lateral incisor to the other side perfectly. In that case, it might be a good idea to consider veneers on both the lateral incisors for better symmetry and aesthetics. It all depends on your aesthetic needs. Hope this helps.
