Is double vision normal after Botox for blepharospasms and how long does it last?

Question

I had botox injections in my right eyelid. 6 days later this eye lid is almost completely closed and I have double and and blurred vision. Injector only did my right eye to check response and I was not informed the cons or amnts administered. The left eye to be done in 3 wks time. I had had botox with a different doc who had applied the injections from the eyebrow and the outer bottom corner of my eyes. This was not very effective. Can symptoms be alleviated?

Double vision after Botox injection is not normal. The neurotoxin could have affected the muscles that control the movement of the eye. Unfortunately, if this is the case, only time will alleviate the problem and the problem could last up to 3 or 4 months. I recommend you call the surgeon who performed the treatment to make them aware of the situation. A consultation with an ophthalmologist may be indicated. Thank you for sharing your question. I would go back to the doctor that injected you and let him look at the eye.  It is not normal to have such severe drooping of the eyelid and double vision.

Hello. Botox around the eye area can result in both lid sagging or ptosis, as well as double vision. The medicine diffuses about a centimeter from where it is injected so it could freeze the muscles that move the eyeball, causing double vision. I would return to the plastic surgeon who did the treatment for evaluation.Good luck.

jossmuss,Double vision and blurred vision are not normal after Botox injections for blepharospasm.  The injections to treat blepharospasm are intended to remain superficial in the orbicularis muscle.  If the lid is droopy and you are experiencing double vision the Botox may have migrated to other areas affecting other muscles around the eye and in the orbit.  While this should return to normal once the Botox wears off it may take 3-4 months.  I would return to the physician who injected you with Botox for a follow-up appt.  In some cases if the eyelid is droopy an eye drop can be prescribed to improve, but not eliminate, some of the symptoms while you wait for the Botox to wear off.  Cody Koch
