I'm nearly 74. By age 75, I expect to have lost nearly 100 lbs & kept it off 6 months. Two questions: 1) Assuming I remain healthy and active, could I have a panniculectomy at age 75? 2) I've just been diagnosed with bradycardia (no other heart issues according to my doctor), and will soon wear a Holter monitor for a while. If I need a pacemaker, might that disqualify me for a panniculectomy? I have no other medical issues apart from arthritis and restless legs syndrome.
Answer: Age limit If you are in general good health your age should not disqualify you from being a candidate for surgery. It will likely be required that your cardiologist clears you for surgery. A pacemaker will not disqualify you. Once you have reached your goal weight and have been cleared for surgery by your cardiologist visit with a board certified plastic surgeon near you.

Answer: Surgery at 75 Thanks for your question. I recently performed a tummy tuck on a patient who was 75 years old, so it is possible. I would continue with your cardiac clearance and make sure you heart is up to snuff. Once stable, you can consider cosmetic elective surgery, but you may need to have your procedure at a hospital. Make sure you consult with a board certified plastic surgeon once you're ready. Good Luck

Answer: Requirements for a Panniculectomy Thank you for your question regarding “If a person is healthy and active, is there an upper age limit for a panniculectomy?” Preoperative clearance is important before any surgery. During your pre-operative clearance, your blood, heart, lungs, and kidneys will be evaluated with blood tests, an EKG, and urinalysis. In your case, I would also suggest a stress test. If you require a pacemaker, it does not disqualify you for a panniculectomy. You will have to notify your doctor that you are on a pacemaker, and intraoperative arrangements will have to be made. However, your age of 75 and your diagnosis of bradycardia with insertion of a possible pacemaker as well as arthritis and restless leg syndrome does not prohibit you from a possible panniculectomy. Indeed a panniculectomy may extend your life. I would suggest you have the panniculectomy sooner rather than later so you can enjoy the rewards. Thank you for your question regarding whether you can have a panniculectomy if you are Healthy and active.

Answer: Panniculectomy Dear Terrific531973 it is hard to tell for sure without an examination. As long as your health conditions are under control, your age should not prevent you from getting a surgery. If you are considering a surgery, I would suggest you to consult a board-certified plastic surgeon. Only after a thorough examination you will et more information and recommendations. Answer: If a person is healthy and active, is there an upper age limit for a panniculectomy? Data collected from some studies have demonstrates that advanced age is an independent risk factor for wound and overall complications following abdominal panniculectomy. These results highlight the importance of preoperative evaluation and optimization of modifiable preoperative risk factors as well as close postoperative follow-up for safe outcomes in patients 65 and older.
