Is thighplasty and Panniculectomy typically covered due to 10+ years of hidradenitis suppurativa flares in that region?

I have been suffering from hidradenitis suppurativa for over a decade now, with most flares being on my inner thigh/bikini line. I have lost almost 50lbs so far but my belly hang and my thighs are continually causing outbreaks. I am unable to work out due to outbreaks it seems like a continued cycle. Would insurance cover the thighplasty due to the HS with doctors documentation? I believe the panniculectomy is covered I just wasn't sure about the thighplasty?

A thighplasty is a somewhat generic term. If you are having issues with infections, HS, and irritated skin, then insurance should cover this procedure. It all comes down to how your physician words the surgical procedure and documents. Insurance should for sure cover the excision of the HS and reconstructing the groin region would require some aspect of a thighplasty. Again, on a play for words, cutting the HS out and closing the skin on the thigh would qualify as a thighplasty.

it is hard to tell for sure without an examination. There is a chance that insurance will cover the costs of your surgery. If you are considering a surgery, I would suggest you to consult a board-certified plastic surgeon. Only after a thorough examination you will get more information and recommendations.
