Question

I am going to get a chin implant and chin lipo. The Dr has told me that he will do the lipo from behind my ears as he doesn’t like to do from under the neck when putting chin implants in at the same time. I have a large fat pocket under my neck. Will he be able to remove that fat if only going from behind my ears.

Thank you for your question and sharing your photograph. It is technically possible to do the liposuction in the central part of the neck strictly from behind the ears. In general, liposuction addresses the volume of fatty tissue under the skin.

In your case, there seems to be a hereditary component which is deeper seated and will not be addressed by the liposuction, whether carried out from behind the ears or from under the chin.

The anterior neck lift procedure is able to manage both the superficial fatty tissue and the volume situated deep to the platysma muscles. However, the combination of liposuction and chin implant is also likely to produce a noticeable effect even though it is not as defined as with the anterior neck lift.

A chin implant and chin/neck liposuction is a great combination. This is because it can address the two things that can make people unhappy with that area - excess fat & a small chin bone. The liposuction can be done from either the chin area and/or from behind the ears. I personally do not see any issue with doing the lipo from the chin area at the same time as the chin implant, but you should trust your surgeon's judgement. It is possible that they are concerned about the lipo increasing the chance of the chin implant moving around.
