Think of it as collateral damage from the thermal freezing. The "normal" skin has responded to the damage by turning darker. This can happen after burns (hot or cold).Local wound care with ointments and keeping the wound moist should help. In the future I would recommend seeking out a professional to help you with these types of lesions especially those in the hard to reach spots.
