Is using twilight anesthesia for Venus Viva typical?

Hi, I've been shopping around for a doctor for my acne scar treatment. Two doctors recommended Venus Viva and Infini RF. One of them said I have to be under twilight anesthesia for Venus Viva. She said it's too painful otherwise. Is using twilight anesthesia for Venus Viva typical? I thought usually a topical numbing cream would suffice. Thanks!

Hi Libra,

Thank you so much for your question.  I have performed the Venus Viva for years with only topical numbing that I would leave for about 30 minutes.  I have even treated patients without numbing at maximum settings. I think this is completely based on patient pain tolerance.  I have some people who request ProNox along with their treatments but I only apply topical anesthesia.  In some cases, patients can request some nerve blocks in their faces if they are truly worried but that would be more applicable to the Infini RF than the Venus Viva.  I don't believe that it's necessary for twilight anesthesia but again would depend on patient preference.  That provider should be willing to work with your choice of anesthesia.

Hi there,

We use a prescription strength compound in an ointment that works very well,
I guess it would depend on what the compound was as the Viva can be a little painful.
I think it is what you can tolerate.
