This is my second round of liposuction. I am a heavy marijuana smoke but have stopped for a month now and will have surgey in a few weeks . I’m wondering which is the safest for sedation . Epidural or general anesthesia

The choice between epidural anesthesia and general anesthesia for liposuction, especially considering your medical history and lifestyle choices, is a decision best made in consultation with your surgeon and anesthesiologist.

Both options have their advantages and risks. Epidural anesthesia is a regional anesthesia that numbs a specific area of the body and allows you to remain awake during the procedure. General anesthesia, on the other hand, renders you unconscious and unaware during the surgery.

Your anesthesiologist will consider factors such as your medical history, overall health, the extent of the liposuction, and your comfort level. They will recommend the anesthesia method that is safest and most appropriate for your specific situation.

This decision should be made with the help of your anesthesiologist.  Review your medical history, marijuana use, and any medications and supplements that you take.  Ceasing marijuana use for several weeks prior to and after your surgery is necessary for your safety.  I've included a video on this topic that I hope you find helpful.

Personally, I do all liposuction with patients awake using local anesthesia with mild sedation.
I’ve done 10,000 Liposuction cases using this type of sedation.
Other plastic surgeons will have their own preferred type of anesthesia. I suggest you defer to your surgeons recommendations.
To explain anesthesia risks requires the input from an anesthesiologist.
Delivering consistent quality, liposuction, results is more difficult than most people realize. Revision work tends to be more complicated and more difficult than primary Liposuction.
I cannot emphasize enough the importance of provider selection for Liposuction or any permanent irreversible body contouring procedure
