I’ve had my lips done over a period of 5years. Over time, I noticed a pocket in my lip that stores the filler and it makes my lips uneven. I recently got my lips filled and my mouth doesn’t look natural at all. Who should I go to have this corrected professionally. How can I get my lips to look back to a natural shape. I have pictures when the filler has dissolved naturally and the lips even out but the shape of my lips looks unnatural. How would you recommend correcting it.

Answer: Addressing bumpy filler results in the lips There are a few options available to you. You can try doing a forceful massage on your lips and see if it helps in anyway at all. You can also wait it out until the filler is completely dissolved and lastly, you can go to someone for a treatment using hyaluronidase in order to dissolve the filler. Ultimately, the choice is up to you. I hope this helps and good luck from New York City Plastic Surgery

Answer: Issues with lip, fillers If the issue is related to poorly placed filler, then you can either have the filler dissolved or you can wait for it to dissipate on its own. The use of fillers can leave permanent changes, including residual volume especially after multiple treatments. The residual volume or permanent changes are not related to residual product. We don’t know the true mechanism but most likely it’s due to repeat, micro, trauma, causing inflammation and scar tissue development. Some people will have permanent irregularities. This is much more common in those who have repeat fillers multiple times especially if the treatments were not done well. Overall, it is relatively unusual and relatively subtle. Most of the volume represents filler and most of it in your case is probably related to how the filler was injected. Do you work with the same provider every time? Finding someone who is mastered this type of work is not easier or straightforward. Once you do, you should stay with that provider unless they turn out to be doing work you’re not pleased with it. Some providers do lip, fillers, better than others. There are potential long-term consequences to having fillers. Take that into consideration when having these treatments. Best, Mats Hagstrom, MD
