I’m 43 yr old female with a boxy nose. I’ve always had a ball on the end of my nose and it’s always bothered me. I was wondering if I have thick skin? Am I a good candidate for rhinoplasty? Are there any issues being in your 40’s and getting the procedure?
Answer: Bulbous nose and boxy tip. Am I a good candidate for rhinoplasty? Based on your photos you appear anatomically to be a good candidate for an artistically performed rhinoplasty through either a closed or open technique. Many patients undergo this procedure at your age. Keep in mind that following advice from a surgeon on this or any other website who proposes to tell you whether you are an appropriate candidate for surgery and exactly what to do without examining you, physically feeling your tissue, assessing your desired outcome, taking a full medical history and discussing the pros and cons of the operative procedure would not be in your best interest. Natural appearing results need to be individualized and what is appropriate for one patient is not necessarily the best for someone else. I would suggest that you find a surgeon certified by the American Board of American Plastic Surgery and one who is ideally a member of The American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS) that you trust and are comfortable with. You should discuss your concerns with that surgeon in person. Robert Singer, M.D., FACS La Jolla, California

Answer: Rhinoplasty + Tipplasty A tip plasty would be a great procedure to reduce the bulbosity of your tip and allow it to match the rest of your nose. I believe you would be a good candidate for a rhinoplasty as well as to also straighten your nose, reduce the bump at your bridge, and make your nostrils more symmetrical. With these recommendations I believe I could help you achieve a result that creates a more confident version of yourself. Notably, a rhinoplasty does have anatomical limitations such as skin thickness, bone structure, and cartilage which can all alter the maximum refinement options. Prior to surgery, medical clearances are needed to ensure that each individual is in good health for surgery as well as the entailed recovery process. It would be best to complete multiple in office consultations with board certified facial plastic surgeons to discuss your ideal outcome. This way, they can assess your nose in person and determine the best treatment for you. Best of luck! Kian Karimi MD, FACS

Answer: Surgery for Bulbous nasal tips: Surgery for bulbous nasal tips: from your photos it appears that you have a typical bulbous nasal tip which has an element of separation of the domes. This is a common feature addressed during routine rhinoplasty. The thickness of your skin is difficult to assess from a photograph alone. That determination is better made by feeling the skin and Cartlidge in person. As to your age, 43 in today’s world is still quite young. I have done many patients in their 60s who got excellent results and were very happy.

Answer: What You Need to Know Before Undergoing Rhinoplasty Thank you for your question and photos. You seem to want a more refined tip and an enhanced projection of your nose. I believe these are achievable goals with the help of a qualified and experienced surgeon who can successfully perform the complex procedure. Also, there is no official upper age limit to rhinoplasty surgeries. In fact, a lot of people your age undergo rhinoplasty procedures. I highly recommend scheduling an in-person consultation with a board-certified facial plastic surgeon who will perform an evaluation and use digital photography to determine your eligibility for the procedure, show your projected results, and ensure the best outcome possible.
