Weak jaw line/no chin? Feeling insecure.

Question

I am a 22 year old male, and I was just wondering what I could do to get a stronger jawline and a more prominent chin. Will some face exercises help at least with the appearance of a more prominent jaw? Or will surgery be the way to go? Any suggestions, advice, etc. is greatly appreciated!

Yes, a chin implant could improve the shape and projection of your chin. When well placed by an expert, a chin implant can last for decades or a lifetime. You can choose a chin with will give you a better projection and smooth the jawline. Neck liposuction could also define and contour the jawline. A consultation with a board-certified facial plastic surgeon is important; for the patient to be evaluated, their goals discussed, and a custom treatment plan decided upon. There are a variety of solutions including some permanent and some temporary. In order to achieve the most natural results, I would recommend a sliding genioplasty for your chin and jaw angle implants for the posterior. Good luck

There are a variety of techniques that can be used to improve your profile and to give the appearance of a more defined jawline. A more temporary approach includes dermal fillers (e.g., Sculptra, Voluma, and Radiesse), while fat grafting, use of permanent fillers (Aquamid, Bellafill ) and facial implants would offer a more permanent solution. To address your concerns I would recommend having an in person consult with a board certified plastic surgeon who specializes in facial aesthetics.

Total jawline enhancement (chin and jaw angles) requires an implant approach. Whether this is using a standard implant approach (chin and jaw angles) or a one-piece custom total jawline implant can be debated.The only other options is a sliding genioplasty for the chin and standard jaw angle implants for the back.

The limited photographs demonstrate  a narrow, weak and recessive chin profile. Placement of a chin implant can accomplish augmenting the chin forward, and giving additional width to the chin. Chin implants are manufactured in a large array of both sizes and shapes which is best determined at the time of the consultation and examination. Hello, thanks for sharing your pictures. You seem to have severe mandibular hypoplasia. Chin implants may not give you satisfactory results. Ideal treatment would be an advancement genioplasty. Consult a board certified plastic surgeon for further assessment.

Hi, I have performed many facial shaping procedures, including Chin Augmentation with dermal fillers or silastic chin implants, for over 30 years.  From the photos, your chin is extremely weak.  When the chin is weak, this creates an imbalance making the nose appear larger, the mid face top heavy, the lower face looks short, de-emphasizes the lips and allows early formation of a "double chin".  
 Proper placement of a silastic chin implant adds forward projection to the chin thereby creating harmony and balance to the lower face.  Using the same incision, liposuction can be performed to reduce the fat and further shape the neck.  Excess skin, from below the chin, can also be removed through the same incision.  
 I have found that placement of a silastic chin implant, through a small curved incision under the chin (also allows excess skin removal) to be very safe, quick, highly effective and far less invasive than a sliding genioplasty (requires extensive tissue dissection, bone cuts and placement of metal screws and plates to secure the cut segments of bone).  I perform chin implant surgery in 30 minutes or less, often using a local anesthetic alone.  In my opinion, you are a good candidate for chin implant surgery.

You have a small chin and a narrow jawbone.  Assuming your bite is normal, a chin implant and mandibular implants would help this issue.  Seek out an opinion from a board-certified expert.  Best wishes.

Dear Parker, An in office examination would best determine a surgical plan to provide you with better balance to your profile and overall facial aesthetic. If you do not have any bite issues then chin augmentation would be a simple procedure that would provide you a much more defined jawline. Exercises will not help your current concerns.
