Cellfina: affects of weight gain and weight lossThere are no studies to my knowledge, but in general , changes in weight always affect fat collections, cellulite and laxity of skin. This is true of liposuction or any cosmetic surgical and non surgical procedure. These will also be affected by aging, pregnancy and other health issues that change the integrity of the skin and underling support structures.
Cellfina is an FDA approved minimally invasive procedure that reduces the appearance of cellulite for at least two years on the buttocks and back of the thighs of women. It works by releasing the internal bands that cause the cellulite dimpling and so we have not seen any fat atrophy. You should not see much of a difference with weight gain or loss but this also has not been studied.Other areas of the body with dimpling, it is important to make sure it is truly cellulite before treatment. It is common to have swelling bruising and firmness after the procedure. This can last for a few weeks. It is different than Cellulaze which is a laser. If you have had previous poor results with cellulaze, you can still do Cellfina.Cellfina has shown 100% noticeable improvement and 96% satisfaction in all patients at 2 years. Cellfina is designed to be a one time procedure. It can be used on women with all skin types but caution should be taken if theres a history of keloiding. It can also be combined with other treatments such as Thermi orUlthera if skin tightening is needed. We have done Sculpsure and Coolsculpting if fat reduction is wanted, but its best to wait 3 months to see the results before proceeding. It can also be done at the same time as other procedures such as liposuction and BBL or as a stand alone procedure in the office.Since Cellfina outcomes can be based on technique and experience, please see a board certified plastic surgeon that specializes body contouring to see if Cellfina or other treatments are available to meet your goals. Cellfina allows us to lyse the fibrous bands responsible for cellulite. It has been accompanied by good long term results. We advise patients to maintain their weight afterwards, being concerned that change in weight may adversely affect the results.
The Cellfina procedure is a minimally invasive one that numbs the area around the dimple on your buttocks or thighs, and then treats the connective bands woven throughout the fat that pull down the skin, creating dimpling seen on the skin’s surface. The Cellfina cellulite procedure works by precisely treating these tethered bands, causing them to fully release. Similar to a rubberband under tension, once released, the treated skin bounces back to smooth itself out in as little as three days.Weight gain or weight loss should not affect the outcomes and the results have been seen for over 2 years (if not more). It is truly a really exciting new technology that most women can benefit from.
Cellfina is the latest break though for the treatment of cellulite. Cellfina targets the fibrous bands which are the sourceof the dimpling in cellulite. It is most effective for the treatment of dimplesand depressions of the buttocks and outer thighs. Once released, the cellulite should not re-occur in the treated area. As with all body contouring procedures, the goal should be maintenance of your weight through healthy lifestyle changes, including diet and exercise. Significant weight gain or loss may cause worsening of cellulite in untreated areas. Minor weight fluctuations should not affect your results. The results for Cellfina are long-lasting with an amazing two year patient satisfaction rate of 96%! Cellfina is a relatively new technology and on going studies will further clarify the long term benefits of Cellfina.
In theory, weight fluctuations should not affect the result, however this is a novel treatment and thus I do not have a definitive answer to that question. The way the treatment works is by cutting the bands that make the dimples seen in cellulite, so weight gain or loss should not affect the cut fibers. However, you may get more cellulite in untreated areas with the weight gain. Hope this helps.
When undergoing liposuction or CoolSculpting for fat reduction, or any cellulite treatment such as Cellfina, ThermiTight, both of which may produce long term results, or any of the ongoing maintenance treatments such as Endermologie, Velashape, ThermiSmooth, etc., weight change will create a different appearance. These treatments are not a replacement for diet and exercise and one should maintain a healthy regimen after treatment to maintain the good result. The information provided in Dr. Shelton'sanswer is for educational purposes only and is not intendedto constitute medical advice. Large fluctuations in weight due to lifestyle/diet/exercise/activity can absolutely affect the outcomes achieved by Cellfina. Good candidates have and will maintain a relatively weight over time.
This is not a fat reduction or removal technology. This releases the bands between 6mm and 10mm beneath the surface of the skin. I feel that the fat layer is relative undisturbed in the process.
Cellfina improves cellulite by treating the dimples caused by connective tissue puckering the skin down into the fat. Dimples may look deeper or more shallow depending on whether the surrounding fat is thicker or thinner. Minor weight fluctuations associated with a change in the fat thickness should not affect the results of Cellfina. It is probably too soon to say for sure how large weight fluctuations would affect results. Similar to body contouring procedures, it is always advisable to maintain a healthy weight before and after these procedures.
