I'm 16 and noticed the hair on my left temple is thin. Is it a sign of receding hairline/MPB? And this hasn't happened abruptly. It's been like this for a long time. So, receding hairline or am I freaking out?
Answer: Thinning Hair -- Rogaine, Propecia, Viviscal, Progesterone, PRP Thinning Hair -- Rogaine, Propecia, Viviscal, Progesterone, PRPIf you have thinning hair you really need an evaluation to see if it is genetic or from another cause like stress or autoimmune. If it is determined to be genetic there are many options and traditional treatments like rogaine foam and propecia pills can be used. I have great success in my practice using injectable progesterone and prp to the scalp. Postmenopausal women also benefit from spironolactone. I suggest seeing a dermatologist with expertise in hair loss. Best, Dr. Emer.

Answer: There is no need to "freak" out Photos alone will not always show early receding or a balding pattern. We always advocate a miniaturization study (a microscopic exam of your hair)We also advocate bulk analysis (measuring the bulk of hair at different areas of your head)Based on photos alone, it does not seem like receding.

Answer: Hair changes at 16 There are really two main causes of hairline changes in a 16 year old:EARLY GENETIC HAIR LOSSHAIRLINE MATURATIONSometimes both are possible. If you are concerned, make an appointment with a physician specializing in hair loss. Measurements, and detailed analysis are important to figure out how much of either you have.

Answer: A 16 year old with a receding hairline This is most probably an early maturing hairline, rather than genetic balding, but you should visit a doctor and make sure. If you are really undergoing hair loss at 16 and it is on the top and crown of your head determined by miniaturization studies and Bulk Hair Analysis, then you should probably be on the drug finasteride (Propecia) which ony a doctor can prescribe. Most likely what you are seeing is the maturation of your hairline which happens in most men by the time they are 29.

Answer: Hair loss from your pictures you look fine and there seems to be no miniaturization of hair in your temples. Between 80-100 strands of hair fall off every day and that is normal. If in a few years you feel like you are losin more than usual amount you can contact a hair loss specialist to be evaluated.
