Will breast implants impact breastfeeding? I already have stretch marks on thigh and breasts that quickly appeared during puberty despite not being overweight, does that mean my stretch marks will get worse with implants and/or pregnancy? My main concern is that whatever has been going on with my body is going to interfere with my plans to become pregnant and breast feed. I have also been curious that if this is something like PCOS, if I had known & been treated earlier, would my breasts have developed properly?
Answer: Breast function after implants Great question! First its important to understand that breasts are more like sisters and not twins, most patients breasts are not symmetrical. Looking at your photos, although there is obvious asymmetry, are not considered abnormal and have developed normally. There are some patients that are much worse so don't beat yourself up about it and there is nothing you can do, our body just develops differently. With that said, breast implants will not affect your ability to breastfeed - also understand that even patients without breast implants can have issues breastfeeding as well, again just human nature. Breast implants will not affect your ability to become pregnant either. As far as stretch marks go, there is always a chance you can get them. I actually published a research paper about breast augmentation and its association with stretch marks a few years ago, I would encourage you to read it to get some information on it - just click on the link attached.Best of luck and hope this information helps!- Dr. Roger Tsai @DrRogerTsaiBoard Certified Plastic Surgeon

Answer: The Bellesoma Method preserves breastfeeding Your breasts are asymmetrical in volume, shape and position. Augmentation alone will not solve your problem. The technique I recommend is The Bellesoma Method. This will reshape your breast tissue creating upper pole fullness without implants, elevate them higher on the chest wall and more medial to increase your cleavage. Vertical scars are avoided, nipple sensation and the ability to breast feed are maintained. At the same time or later, fat transfers can be performed if additional volume is desired. Implants are not lifetime devices and half are removed by 9.5 years. Fat transfers are permanent and incorporated into the body.Best Wishes,Gary Horndeski, M.D.

Answer: Breast Feeding and Stretch marks afer Breast Augmentation Breast implants will not affect your ability to breast feed. Stretch marks can be made worse but this is unusual. In most cases they appear less than before the surgery. In terms of a referral for a PCOS MD, I would ask your primary care or GYN doctor

Answer: What specialists would be best for concerns regarding PCOS, ability to breastfeed, and hormone balancing? (photos) Thank you for sharing your question and photographs. In general if a woman was going to be able to breastfeed prior to implants, she should be able to breastfeed after implants as well. Implants rarely can create new stretch marks but typically only make the ones you already have appear more prominent as a result of the increased volume, but this diminishes as your healing progresses. Hope this helps.

Answer: Breastfeeding If placed behind the muscle and with an incision along the fold, there should be no interference with breast feeding. I recommend an in-office examination as well as a detailed discussion with a surgeon who you are comfortable with. Finally, make sure your surgeon is a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery (ABPS).
