Prior to liposuction are there any tests your surgeon will require to assess your health? E.g blood tests, a general checkup?

Your doc should get your history including your meds, allergies, past med history etc.... He/she should have your emailed  photos of the areas to be liposucioned. Labs include:  CBC, Urinalysis, PT,PTT (bleeding/clotting studies), HIV ab, Hepatitis panel. He/she can do your physical exam when you arrive or better yet the day before your surgery. I like to do a full examination and bloods including hematology, chemistry, blood clotting, and infections such as hepatitis and hiv.  This protects everyone and ensures you are in top health to proceed with the procedure.  Best, Dr. Emer.

If you are young & fit & healthy then there are no tests required prior to liposuction.  Be sure that your surgeon is a fully qualified plastic surgeon and operating on you in an accredited facility.  There are many good surgeons in Australia that would mean that you didn't have to travel abroad. 

In truth, an indepth history for someone under 50 yrs of age may be sufficient.  An EKG or blood tests may be ordered depending on the information gathered.

Medical clearance is generally needed if the procedure is long or general anesthesia is used and the patient is older or has medical problems/takes medications. Your PS should tell you what they need for clearance (if anything) and you can usually see your doctor close to home and send the results via email or fax.
