I received a benelli mastoplexy with no implants 19 days ago. I have a permanent suture in place, and I am happy, but I can see my left areola has spread on the bottom a bit, but nothing that bothers me, yet. My right areola is also a bit larger than it appears-they're very similar at this point. I am wondering at which point in time am I in the clear? 3 months? 6 months? 5 years? Also, I do have a permanent suture in place, so if it doesn't break, is there only a maximum distance it can spread?

Thank you for your question. You should see your doctor to have the right breast looked at to determine if you need to have an antibiotic for the open wound. All the best,Dr. ResultsMiami, FL

That's a good question. When you close a skin opening that has been present for several hours or happens as a result of minor skin cell death, it will usually get infected so we get better and safer results by allowing what we call closure by secondary intent, or delayed healing.
