Typically, chemical peels don't go deep enough to damage hair follicles. Hairs can be damaged by chemicals but the follicle is deep within the skin. The follicle is that part that makes the hair so although the hair shaft may get damaged and fall out, it will grow a new one in its place. I haven't noticed any hair loss on facial hair on the women or men I've used chemical peels or phenol peels on. Phenol peels are far stronger than a typical peel so if there ever was a chance that hair removal could occur with a peel, this would be it. Because of the rarity of patients getting phenol peels over transplanted hair follicles, there isn’t enough information to know what will occur with certainty. For that reason, I wouldn't recommend a phenol peel directly over transplanted hair just to be safe. Virtually any other non-laser skin treatment would be a safer choice. Talk to your board certified plastic surgeon or trichologist to make sure you make the right decision. Best of luck to you!
