Question

I had kybella and radiesse fillers done a little over a month ago. Aside from the fact that the fillers show no result to my jawline, I'm experiencing major swelling a hard lump under my chin from the kybella. It feels sore to massage and the lump is one hard lump as opposed to little nodules under the chin. I'm worried that I have had this for too long with no progress. It isn't going away. Is there anything I can do for this hardness? Should I be concerned?

Thank you for your question. Kybella is good for dissolving the submental fat under the chin area while contouring the jawline and making the chin more defined, but a combination approach is needed to get the most improvement with non-invasive options. I recommend a combination approach with thermage, ultherapy, exilis. VASER liposuction in combination with ThermiRF is the best alternative for contouring the chin and can be performed with a neck lift, if you're a candidate. I recommend getting a formal evaluation with a cosmetic dermatologist. Best, Dr. Emer

I do a great deal of injections of fillers for the jaw line and Kybella in the submental area.  I wouldn't be concerned about the nodule as it is a potential side effect from Kybella and will resolve. If you feel that the fillers showed no results I would return to look at your before and after photographs. It is possible that you need more fillers or a different one.  Please consult an expert in cosmetic injections for the best results.  Best, Dr. Green

The response to this treatment varies from patient to patient. In your case this is how you responded. I'm not a fan of this treatment at all. In fact I think it's awful and should be stopped.  If you would've had liposuction you would have had results that are final by now. I would encourage you to share your experience with the real self community so people can have a better understanding of what it's really like to have Kybella  injections.  Personally I would not have injected fillers in the same proximity to using Kybella because by the time the swelling subsides the fillers will be mostly gone.  It's hard to appreciate the subtlety of a syringe of filler next to the massive swelling from the fat destroying treatment.  I see patients posting semi-disastrous outcomes from this treatment on a daily basis on real self.  With time this will settle down and hopefully you will have decent results. Do the world a favor and share your experience just like you would've wished others would've shared it with you before making the decision.  Best, Mats Hagstrom MD

it's called induration, it is a response to inflammation. When I see this I use very tiny doses of steroid which helps a lot. talk to your doctor.
