What can I do about a misshapen areola? (Photo)

Question

I had a donut lift about a year ago and love how my breasts look while my nipples are soft. When my nipples harden, one areola becomes mishapen. Is there anything that can be done to fix this?

This could probably be fixed with an in office revision with some local anesthesia.  Take out some skin to make it more symmetrical.

When aroused or cold, the muscle fibers cause the nipples to contract and harden. They cause change to the size and shape of the areola, hardening and elevating the nipple and raising goosebumps all over the breast. When muscles contract, they make an attempt to release the fluid each gland has produced, and so the areole appears bumpy. 
Schedule a consultation with a ABPS board certified plastic surgeon who can evaluate your breasts and determine whether an areolar revision is likely to improve your misshapen scar.

it is hard to tell for sure without an examination. Based on your photo, it looks like you would need a surgical procedure in order to make it more symmetrical. If you are considering a surgery, I would suggest you to consult a board-certified plastic surgeon. Only after a thorough examination you will get more information and recommendations.

There are fine muscles within the skin and areola-nipple that react on stimulation, cold shower, etc. When they contract and nipple hardens, areola becomes smaller and changes the shape. Hope this helps.

The easiest solution would be to find a skillful pigment artist to match  up the color of your areola and tattoo around it to blend the scar into a better shape.

Your areola looks very good although I see the irregularities you mention. Although this can be redone there is no guarantee that it will be better. In fact it could be worse. But I recommend discussing it with your surgeon. Your result is good and I advise against revision.

I would venture to guess that your areolar irregularity during nipple stimulation was present before your surgery.  The perfectly round areolae that we create with breast lift surgery are actually more unnatural than most areolae, because they are "perfectly round."  Most areolae are irregularly shaped.  I would not recommend any intervention.  Good luck!
