I have been on accutane for two months at 60 mg/day (max dose for my weight) - I have dark skin and dark hair and used to get brazilian waxes regularly to remove hair from my pubic area. I know waxing would be too harmful for my skin in its current state so I'm wondering what are other safe alternatives (nair, shaving, laser, etc.)? I'm nervous because I recently had my eyebrows threaded and my skin reacted very negatively to it (itchy, painful, and bumpy), which it had never done before.

Your best option would be shaving as anything trauamtic to the skin like threading, waxing and laser could scar the skin permanently.

Thank you for your question. You are correct that waxing would be harmful to your skin while on isotretinoin therapy and even up to 6 months after stopping the medication. Isotretinoin increases your chances of scarring if your skin incurs any type of trauma or injury such as tattoos, piercings, cosmetic procedures such as dermabrasion or chemical peels, laser treatments, waxing or surgeries. Shaving, threading, and Nair lotions are safe alternatives; however, since you had a negative reaction to threading, I would advise against threading.
