Can I gain weight in specific areas if I get Vaser lipo?

Question

I would like to know if I can gain weight to a specific area such as the buttock area after getting Vaser lipo, as an alternative to a BBL. The downtime is not attractive for me and I'm at a slim, healthy weight but have problem areas such as stomach that does not give me the desired hourglass shape through exercise. If I get Vaser lipo on my back and stomach and if I gain weight, will it redistribute the fat to other areas? Thanks!

Hi, thanks for your question - it's one that is frequently asked by patients.During liposuction we remove a % of fat cells from the area. We do need to leave some behind as it provides a support structure for the blood vessels and nerves etc. Without that the skin may be compromised. Also it will help with scar tissue formation and skin contracture.So these areas can still gain weight/enlarge if you gain weight, don't exercise or have poor dietary intake. As the % has reduced the ability to gain as much as before has been reduced. However, once you give the body enough supply it will eventually produce more fat cells and the areas will enlarge.So it will most likely happen proportionately and you will not suddenly get a buffalo hump or grow an extra limb.....The idea is that you maintain your weight and have a sensible exercise routine and diet after this procedure.Hope that makes sense.Dr Wolf

Remember there are two kinds of fat visceral and subcutaneous. Vaser removes subcutaneous fat, diet, lifestyle changes help with visceral fat. So you can gain weight after Vaser Lipo. When you transfer subcutaneous fat like foe a BBL, remember it has a blood supply, that is how the fat survives and with weight gain you could see those fat cells possibly enlarge. Vaser is a great procedure foe shaping and contouring. Look to see a provider near you that has experience with Vaser and you will not be disappointed. JB

Following liposuction, if you gain weight, the fat will go to various areas of the body, in proportion to the number of fat cells in each region.  So following VASER liposuction to certain areas, fat accumulation will build where there is more fat cells remained first, and the liposuctioned areas will gain less fat in comparison.

Laser liposuction is good for problem areas of fat, but lacks body shaping. The best in body contouring not only removes fat with energy devices like VASER ultrasound but also internally heats the skin with radiofrequency devices such as Renuvion (J-Plasma), InMode BodyTite, and ThermiRF to heat the undersurface of the skin and tighten it at the same time as fat removal. These combinations are called 4D HI-DEF VASER Liposuction and can only be done by a well-trained body contouring specialist. At the same time, fat should be harvested and purified, with PRP and stem cells added, and then injected into muscles, indentations and cellulite to get body shaping and contouring. For a Brazilian butt lift (BBL), we inject the fat into the buttock for contouring and lifting, but fat can also be used in areas such as the chest/breast, arms/shoulders, calves and face.  Cellulite should also be treated with a combination of Cellfina, subcision, and/or fillers such as Bellafill, Renuva synthetic fat, or Sculptra. If skin is very loose before surgery, then it will need to be removed: tummy tuck/abdominoplasty for lower abdominal skin; breast lift for excess breast skin; and/or a brachioplasty for loose arm skin.

Overall, you need a full assessment, but simple liposuction alone will not tighten skin and needs a combination of various methods -- fat removal, skin tightening, defining, fat grafting, skin removal -- to get the best in body contouring and body sculpting. See an expert. Best, Dr. Emer.

No, VASER liposuction will not redistribute the fat. In order to keep the results of your procedure you need to maintain a healthy diet and workout consistently. If you are interested in adding volume to your buttock then you may want to consider a BBL. If you are a good candidate for a Brazilian Butt Lift (BBL), the optimal outcomes are achieved with: 1) use of VASER liposuction to harvest the fat, 2) a closed looped system such as Puregraft to process the fat, and 3) strategic micro-packet transplant technique. These three processes have demonstrated over 95% fat graft take. This means that your results will be stable as long as you maintain your weight. As an official VASER trainer, I am routinely referred unhappy BBL patients. One of the most common reasons for disgruntled BBL patients is that patients are not able to accurately communicate their desired buttocks goals to their surgeons. A buttocks assessment tool can be an invaluable tool to communicate to your surgeon the exact buttocks size and shape you are desiring. Lipisuction with or without fat transfer will permanently change your fat distribution.

If people change weight after fat manipulating procedures they will do so based on their new fat distribution.

The recovery for fat transfer is really not any longer than for liposuction.

Different plastic surgeons have different postoperative protocols after the BBL but in terms of just simple recovery for transfer transfer is slightly less traumatic than liposuction.  The equipment used what type of liposuction is fairly irrelevant. Gaining weight after liposuction to grow other body parts it’s probably not a good way to go.

While lipo removes fat cells, the ones that are still there can grow and shrink. You will probably notice weight distributing to other areas of the body before the area on which you had the procedure.
