How do I find a doctor to deflate my implant?

Question

I got 350cc's 9 years ago, and after having a baby, would like them deflated. I plan to have another baby and breastfeed within the next 3 years, and would be getting an explant and lift then (when I'm finished having children) at the advice of a doctor I spoke to on real self. How do I find a doctor to deflate my saline implants in the meantime? I don't see this as an option for most plastic surgeons.

Find a surgeon board certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery and then make some phone calls.  Ask about price, deflating saline implants is simple and should be inexpensive.  Having the card with your implant info or operative note will help.  Good luck, Jane

Deflating an implant takes less than 5 minutes and is done in the office under local anesthesia.  This is a fairly common procedure in my office and is very simple.  You can keep the deflated implant for as long as you want and then remove and replace.  Best of luck.

If your implants are indeed saline, any surgeon who does breast augmentation can deflate them for you. I do, however, agree that seeing someone boarded by the American Board of Plastic Surgery is the best way to go.

You can begin with a search of board certified plastic surgeons on the ASPS website.  You can peruse the websites of surgeons in your area and even call to the offices to see if the procedure you desire is one that they perform.

Let us make sure we are talking about the same thing; You can't just pop your implants, you will need to take them out; this can be done under local anesthetic in the office in order to keep your costs down; then when you are ready you can get your breast lift and implant augmentation. The reason for this is that a popped implant is vulnerable to infection as the inside of the implant can act as an abscess focus.

Hello and thank you for your excellent question. Is there a reason that you are requesting a deflation, as opposed to just a straightforward implant removal? Provided the implants are filled with saline, either procedure is very straightforward, and can be performed with a local anesthetic (if desired). This decision should be based on a detailed discussion with equal input from both you and your surgeon.    Make sure you specifically look at before and after pictures of real patients who have had this surgery performed by your surgeon and evaluate their results.   The most important aspect is to find a surgeon you are comfortable with. I recommend that you seek consultation in person with a qualified board-certified plastic surgeon. Good luck!

This is a simple procedure but must be done sterilely and through as little breast tissue as possible to prevent problems. Thus far, I have never had a patient with a problem or had anyone come back for removal unless they were doing it as a temporizing procedure like you. Any board certified plastic surgeon can do this. Although not my usual first option, it can be an excellent one for someone like you

I have had good success deflating saline implants  through a skin puncture into the implants.  The saline is removed.  The implant shell is left in place.  It helps maintain the space for the next augmentation.  No patient that I have treated has complained about the implant.  When you are ready,  a new implant can be placed.  If necessary, a lift can  be done.  There are no health risks with the deflated implant shell in position.  You may benefit with the deflation in order to have less skin stretching with the next pregnancy.  Breast implant plastic surgeons can help you.

If your plan is pretty definite you should consider removing the implants, not deflating them. Many patients find deflated implants to be very uncomfortable. Taking out saline implants can be quick and easy in many cases.
